Fightwize Instructors
Sensei Malcolm Bale
Head Instructor - Malcolm Bale was exposed to Ju-Jitsu from an early age as his Mother trained in Ju-Jitsu under Instructor - Master John Farkas in Rugby, England.
Malcolm was also involved in Boxing from an early age for many years with the Rugby Irish Amateur Boxing Club, Rugby, England. Charlie Marshall, Steve Cotterill, Derek Linster and Ray Gwillam all great Trainers with so much great information to teach. He trained in Full Contact Karate (ECKA) under the Instruction of Dev Barrett and Clive Tennant in Coventry, England. These arts did build an excellent foundation for Self-Defence, all that was missing was an art which gives a more practical street application and Tadashii Do Ju-Jitsu certainly filled that void.
Malcolm became involved in Ju-Jitsu with Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu in Calgary under the instruction of Sensei Kevin Lintott. He was awarded rank of Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt) in July 2003 by Shihan Steve Hiscoe in Chilliwack, BC. He was awarded rank of Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) by Sensei Kevin Lintott in July 2005. Sensei Kevin Lintott is Head Instructor of GMA Martial Arts and based in Grande Prairie, AB. He is also Chief Instructor of The Alberta Jiu-Jitsu Association (AJJA).
Alberta Self Defence (Fightwize) have run many Free Self Defence Courses in the Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton areas, teaching a Stand-Up Jiu-Jitsu with emphasis on modern Self-Defence.
From time to time, we will have instructors from our parent Club taking sessions. Tadashii Do Ju Jitsu is well established with many experienced Black-Belt Instructors at their disposal.
We will also train at Seminars and Camps at various locations around Alberta.
Malcolm is one of the few Self Defence Instructors in Calgary. Courses are also held in Edmonton Red Deer and other locations throughout Alberta. More Recently we have started to offer Free Self Defence Courses in Coventry and Rugby, Warwickshire, UK.
More locations throughout Canada and the UK will become available in the coming weeks and Months.
Other Instructors with Fightwize are:
Sensei Mariedke Dalman
Mariedke began her training in Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu in the summer of 2000 and has been a direct student of Steve Hiscoe Shihan (www.hiscoejiu-jitsu.org) since 2006. She received her Nidan (2nd degree black belt) in 2005 and is one of few women to have achieved this rank in Can-Ryu.
Having lived here most of her life, Mariedke has seen Calgary's violence change from a rare occurrence to a daily one. From the time she was a teenager until her early adulthood she felt small and weak, and would worry about what she would (or could) do if ever confronted with violence; this is what drew her to the martial arts.
Part of Mariedke's passion for teaching is her belief that everyone should have the ability to protect themselves, regardless of size or gender. Being 5'2", she's able to demonstrate to her students time and again how technique is what allows you to accomplish the tasks in the curriculum (throws, takedowns, escapes etc.), not large muscles and 6-pack abs.
Mariedke has taught numerous self-defense courses to the public since 2003, and has contributed significantly to the development of a number of Jiu-Jitsu programs for children, teens and adults.
In addition to her Jiu-Jitsu training, Mariedke is a Level 1 Field Agent for the Kid-Safe Network, holds a Level 2 rank in Arnis de Cadena from Guro Joel Huncar and trains occasionally with Sensei Dave Rathnow in Eishin-Ryu Iaido.
